I think the record was 322.7 feet and in the news they stated in pratice he was jumping at 350 feet. The wind was holding him back. It was cool to watch when in mid-flight he would hit the back brake and then nose of the bike would dip.

Thats normal when flying a bike ,rear brake front goes down . Add throttle front goes up. A bike can be steered better than you would think when in the air . Espesially a light motocross bike . When I used to race I would hate riding with a friend of mine he made it look so easy . I would be working my butt off with the double and triple jumps . He could just place that bike exactly where he wanted . Dave

It's physics and the results can be predicted with algebraic equations. It's made lots easier with today's computer programs. I doubt Evel bothered using a slide rule when figuring his jumps.
Impressive jump!

OK... But I'd be REALLY impressed if he did it on a GS!

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.

I'll wager Evel Kneivel might have fared better on his jumps if he'd had something like a modern motocross bike. Still, even with one, that's pretty fast and pretty far above the ground to be without wings...
