someone called me about the ducati 996 i have for sell. basically a scam, but I cannot figure it out. I tell the guy no over payment no shipping except by the local ducati shop, and any money is held for 10 - 15 days before the bike is released. Up until now that get's rid of 100% of the scammers. This guy says fine. Asks all sort's of questions about the bike, ask's for receipts of the work we had done, ask about mileage and the few problems mentioned in the add. I know it is a scammer but I cannot for the life of me figure out how he thinks he will pull it off.

Maybe he isn't a scammer? There is no such thing as a free lunch though.

Why do you think he's a scammer?

He's getting his story straight so he can publish your pics and vin and "sell" the bike to other people.

ah, did not think about using my info to sell it "again" that makes perfect sense

why do I think he is a scammer:
wants to wire me the money, works for disney cruise line and "is on the ocean" so cannot come and see the bike. Buying the bike in america because it is cheaper than in UK. Wants to ship bike to UK. All classic scam answers.

Actually He will eventualy buy the bikefrom you and send you a check, but the check will be for substancially more then the agreed upon price. Thats when he says Oh just deposit and send me the diference.

I am sitting on a 1800.00 check for a LT cup holder andtwo J$M headsets I was asking 180.00 for. He even Fed exed it to me
I called the bank it was written on and they told me they had no such customer. I understand how you know its a scammer I had the same feeling.

If he's willing to wire you the money, that's the opposite of the usual scam. Once he wires you the money, you have it - Western Union says "Remember that sending money using a money transfer service is like handing over cash." Usually they want to send you a check (which is bogus) for more than the purchase price and have you wire the extra money back to them, at which point it's gone.
