My wife likes to gamble and I like to ride my RT so we combined our interests in a vacation to Barona Casino near Temecula. I snagged a photo of Barona from their website, but all other images were taken on my iPhone 4.

Barbie started gambling and I hit the road with a nice fog rolling in. The area around Barona is fun from the first turn. I have new tires so I was interested in how these Metzeler Z6 Interact would perform they rock. After the first set of twisties I knew I must be covering all of tire when I felt my boots scrape a bit.

On a photo stop I got a text from my wife she won $400 on a penny machine. N I C E!

Highway 78 and later 79 are all about fun. It was a weekday so traffic was absent all day. It was a combination of fog and great bright sunlight. Air was clean and cool with very little wind.

Everything was in bloom or was a vibrant shade of green.

I ended up at another casino before heading back. This area has 12 or more casinos if gambling is your thing.

We made a 2 up trip to Julian for breakfast and selected the Coffee House. We were the only non-locals at breakfast. The blueberry pancakes were amazing.

After a fun ride back to Barona it was back on the road. My ride to the Hideout took me over some of the same roads, but they seemed different without a passenger. Reaching the hideout was less than wonderful since it is closed on weekdays.

I headed out to Mount Palomar Observatory on route 76 to enjoy more of this area. The fog was streaming in rapidly and I was climbing to meet it...

Lake Henshaw was a nice treat

My ride

Again it was up into the fog

Finally I met the fog and it was thick! It got so bad that I turned on every light I had including the flashers and just crawled forward toward Mount Palomar. It finally cleared a bit higher and this is the undramatic view of the start of the road down the hill

There were numerous brightly colored flowers. I chanced this photo on the hill.

I saw all of the usual animals like cows and horses, but the ostrich, camel and turkey got my attention. The turkeys were crossing the two lane highway and "flew" at times. The second on was close enough to get me to raise my left arm for protection, whew!

I hope you get to enjoy this area - I did!

Nice photos. I have enjoyed that area. One of my favorites down there is Agua Caliente Hot Springs, a San Diego park, on S2 about half way south between Julian and Ocotillo, at Highway 8.
Monday morning this week I had that same fog, visibility not 50 feet on Caliente/Bodfish. And then a small herd of cows on the road, around a blind curve. Fortunately a car had stopped amongst them, and made them more visible, and avoidable.

Nice pics, looked like a nice ride. I noticed that the gas prices in California are getting pretty high.

I agree with you but felt like a tank a day was well spent cash. I rode 600 miles in 3 days with 375 of it in the 2 lane funzone

And your wife was winning at the casino, so in this case you were riding on house money!

I've done that ride several times myself, and need to do it again soon. Nice pics. No snow up top?

No snow. The west side was really warm and sunny while the east was cool and foggy.

Nice. There are quite a few nice roads out here...including some that nobody seems to know about.
