I'm planning a trip thruogh ID to the Ice fields parkway in Canada. I see this road on the map from Lowman to Banks. Hwy 21 to Hwy 55. Mapsource has this as a broken line for a bit. Wonderind from some locals if this is passable on an RT. Thanks

Great road!!! It was in excellent shape when I went through last year. The only possible concern is that one needs to be on the lookout for rocks on the road. Very limited services in Lowman or Banks. Lowman to Idaho City is also a blast. Enjoy.

I was curious about this road a couple of years ago. I called the Idaho Highway department. A very nice older lady was helpful and assured me the road was paved and open.

One tip. Northbound from Banks to McCall is a nice road but best if you pick your time and days. McCall is on a big lake and apparently the population of Boise and surrounding locations go there on the weekends.

Word to the wise.

From New Meadows north on 95 is also fairly busy but a good ride. Graingeville is a nice place to stop if your timing calls for it.

I second that. If you can work it out, ride Idaho City to Lowman. It's worth it, even if you have to backtrack.

You know more of a road by having traveled it.

Good roads and lots of fun! BUT be very careful of speed limits. 10 over will cost you $85. Lots of 45mph sections that should be 65. Boise City Motors are patrolling this area on weekends just to enforce the speed limits. They give no quarter.

Right now there is a fair amount of paving projects going on. Delays are about ten to fifteen minutes but the new pavament is very nice.

Drop me a pm when you are ready to come up this way and I can give you the latest. Plan to ride the Boise/lowman/ Idaho City/Boise loop tomorrow morning.
