Here's the first pic of my '03 RT after being painted in what is supposed to approximate the metallic gold of the 1978 R100RS:

Was a bit too late to catch the sunset light. It probably would have been better. It might not shine again for a week, so I had to do the best with the available light.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

Very nice!

Did you do it or take it apart and give the bits to the painter?
How long did it take?

Took it apart and re-assembled it myself. 3 hours to tear down, 5 to reassemble. I waited a week to let the new coat cure before assembling.

Anyone know what's best for taking splattered bugs off of new paint? I've read that their body fluids degrade new paint (clear coated), but so does serious elbow grease and most solvents.

Hydrate them with a wet towel for an hour or so and they should wipe right off.

Looks nice BTW!

Very different how will anyone know it is a BMW. You know the bike must be some from of Black or Grey. hahah Great look. I have many times thought of painting a bike but I can never bring my self to spend the money. After seeing this I am rethinking my colors.

I like that, a lot. It reminds me of the "Candy Gold" that Honda used on the CB750 and CB450 in the early '70s; a personal favorite.

OUTSTANDING ! I envision a change of color on mine in a couple of years. Have you thought about any striping or subtle graphics?
