I have been bikeless for a few years due to a past medical condition and am looking to get back on two BMW wheels. In looking at ads and prices I'm wondering if used bike sales are slowing down and if so will winter 2016-17 provide better prices and selections?

I'm told by our local BMW dealer that is the case on both new and used.

Adventure and dual sport models seem to be the most sought after.

But the market is pretty soft right now across the board.

Worldwide sales of BMW motorcycles are up slightly. In the USA, BMW motorcycle sales are DOWN 17% YTD. Down 40% in May. Sales of used and new motorcycles sales are down in the USA. This could change, but it seems unlikely to happen this year.

The disposable income is drying up. I have had 4 BMW's over the past 18 years, but with the prices of the new ones, I am out.

A new BMW anything is not in my future and I'm perfectly OK with that. Still have a '93 R1100RS and it will be my last BMW after 40+ years.

just dropped my 2003 k1200rs (bought in 2012) to the shop today for a new clutch, ohlins suspension and a few other upgrades. it will be good for 10 more years after that. will be around $3k total. a good investment i think. prices for these former flagships are really soft now, so it is a lot of bike for not too much money.

I agree with the comments posted. Most people look at riding as a luxury of sorts. With that in mind, it requires disposable income to maintain and to play with this sport. That income is quickly disappearing in the good old USA. So I think the sales of high end bikes are going to go soft. Others will as well but at a slower pace, just my guess.

I don't know about new motorcycle prices, but BMW MC part prices are alot higher here in the US than they are in Europe. Perhaps with lower demand, that parity will change.
