danevans Posted April 26, 2017 Share Posted April 26, 2017 I am replacing alternator belt on my 95 R1100 gs. Clymer book says to loosen breather pipe. Will I need to replace any washers? Will I need to loosen or remove the lower part of the pipe? Thanks! Link to comment

Evening ks curmudgeon Well!-- the proper way is to loosen the lower & replace the tube sealing washers but what is proper & what I do is not always the same. I usually just remove the upper hollow bolt trying to keep track of the sealing washers as far as where they came from & which way they faced then pull the top of the tube out just enough to sneak the belt through. I almost always re-use the sealing washers but am very careful to make sure that the seating surfaces & sealing washers are squeaky clean & free of dirt & sand. Added: be sure to run the engine a bit to check for leaks before re-installing the belt cover. Edited April 26, 2017 by dirtrider Link to comment
