Why does the top picture show it laying on its right side but the bottom picture makes it look like it fell on its left? :) More to the story?

Dave...

Grasshopper, there was more than one water crossing. Of course, this has all been documented and I'll link the video tonight.

I'm guessing you will need another light bracket.

John - I burst out laughing hysterically at this comment!! But to your statement, NO. Although the bulb itself didn't like being called down so quickly. It's about 90% dim. I'm in Portland now, so I'll run by PIAA and get another.

Maybe you should look at a GS? :)

I did and I too bought one! 2018 R1200 GSA low suspension, triple black. Will show up at FART ‘18 on the new one.ðŸ‘

For those of you following along at home - John graciously applied his considerable metals and welding skills to modify some brackets so they would allow for mounting of my PIAA Halogen Lights below the mirrors. He did a superb and professional job, and thus his concern not about me, but the bracket itself.

On the second crossing, I hit a rut that pitched me to the right and took me down. The bike seems to have come to a rest on the muddy crown of the submerged road - and the puddle looks deceptively shallow in the still picture.

Dave...

Our routed road closed, and we knew the road on the other side went around the lake. OR so we thought. Turns out we'd confused this lake with the next one! We ran over to the paved road on the other side of the lake, only to have it end in a parking area, along with a narrow single lane bridge adorned with a sign "Road Not Maintained For Public Use". That's hardly a deterrent to Yours Truly, so I led us off into unknown areas. Mind you, my two companions were on RENTED bikes, but they screwed up and trusted me. We crossed one puddle, with mild objections and then the monster marsh came up just after a speeding suv ran me into the side of the road - obviously not expecting anyone else to be on the road.

So I offer two videos. The first is a cliff notes version that really does not do justice to the situation or the resulting comedy of it either. The commentary is quite good though. It's obvious from this shot that I wasn't going fast enough :revit:

The second video is from my GoPro - and being on the road, I'm not able to edit it. But the dialog is amusing, as you can hear the uncertainly in my voice about various plans considered AFTER I cross the Big Pond (without hesitation) the first time. The ending sequence is belly-laugh funny. This shows an initial water crossing and then the Pond Crossing and attempted repeat of same.

Cliff notes version:

And the one you should commit 11 minutes to watching and listening.

Wouldn't have happened on a GS. Just say'n...

;)

I have seen GS take a bath, just ask Roadscholar, he has a whole collection of pictures of drowning GS's and KTM's.

We were in Willamette National Forest in Oregon. It was a soft landing and no damage to the bike or rider to speak of.

As always, there's more to the story - but that will have to wait for the ride report.

As soon as the phone got stowed, my wife and I said "Oh nooo, he just jinxed himself!"

That is what I thought.

I've seen Roadscholar's pics, very impressive. And, I was just kidding... ;-)

I love the part of the video where it looks like you're just floating around. :)

Glad there was no damage to either rider or bike.

Tasker meant to say HIS GS wouldn't have gone done - what with his pristine specimen being currently For Sale.

YEs! That is quite funny!!

Very true. All week we'd been playing pool in the evenings and The Clean Living Hoosiers would do their best to 'get inside' the head of whoever had to make a critical shot. So it was natural that The Silver Bastard made sure he had his camera out for the return trip, but not before telling me about all these little things in and around the water that I never once paid any attention to when I crossed it the first time. He and Jerry would SAY they were encouraging me and looking out for any dangers, but this crew is subtle in their methods.:rofl:

I hope to attend this one but will be last minute as I recently moved to NC and will be starting my new job 1 August. I'm only about 2 1/2 hours away so hope to at least make an appearance though.

ERdok - Yes please join us, if only for a brief time. Congrats on the new job! Your brief ride to Dillon is the PERFECT excuse to .. .. uhh .... go for a ride! :revit:

Weebles wobble.....................................

Yes they do. :java: They also Hobble :old::whistle: - but hopefully you're not hobbling any more!

IN. Arriving Wednesday for the famous Pre-FART ceremonies.

OK, guess I'm in now! See you all Thursday, and looking forward to an "0 dark 30" start Friday with Bernie. Hoping to have brother Frank and his son Jon (on a KTM enduro) from Nashville there as well.

I need a favor....

Thanks to Matt Sturgis and Chris from Texas, I now have a new Favorite Whiskey. The problem is, the stuff is not available this far North....period. It is however available in Lavonia, GA at....

Downtown Beverage

216 Jones St, Lavonia, GA 30553

If anyone is headed through there on the way to a great FART, could you pick a bottle up for me? Largest size possible? I would gladly pay a sipping fee, or buy you a beer or something. :) I called the place and they said they always have it on the shelf. I will call again just before I head out on my way down in September.

If nobody is headed through there, I guess I could bomb down there before dinner one night and get a bottle. But, if you wander close to there, could you help a brother out? :)

Shawn, at the present time I see no reason why I cannot route through there and pick up what you want.

It looks like we would have to detour and stop there after lunch in Bowman.

I need to see if there's a decent coffee shop close by, otherwise it's really going to get expensive for Shawn.

Thanks so much for offering to help me out guys. :) Just send my bill to the Underhills (Fletch movie reference).

The bottle I have at my house is a half gallon (almost empty). Two of those should work. Now I just need to figure out if I need to bring my top case. :dopeslap:

Marty, I appreciate your offer. I'll still be glad to share some with you in Dillard. :)

Ron - I see the Bootlegger has brought you out of hibernation. Great to have you back!

Ken - This being your first FART, you might practice a few at home.

Steve - Great news you're coming and keeping it in the family with Frank and Jon.

Andy! Sweet Sassy Molassie! You haven't FARTed since 2015! Welcome back - glad to have you with us again!

I'm officially off the fence and In! I'll be arriving Thursday, 9/27.

Since I recenty moved from Florida to North Carolina, my ride will be a bit shorter but much more scenic. Looking forward to FARTing in GA.

What? You don't like staring at Ohio License plates for the first 300 miles while droning down the interstate? :)

yea, what's funny is, I see a lot of FL (tourists) license plates in NC...

Hey - Bernie has to get his miles in somehow! :read: This year the only way to get any miles in living in Florida is to take a boat.

Rick - You're all updated and good to go! :bike: Congrats again on the new job!

WOW Rick, already put Florida in your rear view mirror, and have become a NC resident/native. Sheesh. Just make sure you are courteous to us visitors and pull to the right when you see us crowding your rear view mirror. :bike::dopeslap:

I may need to tap out from FART this year. I was recently accepted for a MRP Ride two weeks before FART. My employer has this weird thing about showing up for work, and I think being gone that long may push my boundaries and budget. I will confirm by Fri next week if I am in or out.

Thanks

Mike

Shawn, according to giggle, there's a store about a mile away from me.

Don't know if any Farting right now, so just keep in heading S if'n y'all wouldalike a

free bottle...

However, if we venture N, I'll play too.

Question is, Does Chuck Norris endorse it?

Mike - sorry to hear this. But if it doesn't work out, at least you'll be riding. If you are able to come, maybe we can ride?

Be Well!

Tim - you're not FARTing?!? Whaaaaa???

Dave,

Been lurking.

Don't know.

Recent oral surgery, typical SOS with the rest of body, and unexplained weight loss (docs perplexed, again at specialists/clincis/hospitals)

I'm in a weight range I last saw before Watergate...(over 75 pounds lighter than when Beth and I met. and about 60 less than El Paseo/BRR/Un/START/FART rides)

But, who knows and it is "on" the calendar.

Best wishes.

Tim, Thanks for the chuckle over using "giggle". I'm probably the last person n earth not to have heard it. A (more) elderly friend yesterday sincerely referred to "Uber" and "Goober". In regards to the other, Randy speaks for all of us. We wish you the best. I look forward to catching up.

Tim - I too want you to know just how much you and Beth have been a consistently positive part of the past almost 15+ year experience I have had with BMWST.com and it's board members.

Your positive attitude, willingness to share your knowledge, and experiences, not only with motorcycling, but on a wide range of issues, has always brought a smile on my face and a feeling of gratitude for having been able to benefit from your life's experiences.

I will be thinking only positive thoughts and hope to share some good times with you and Beth in the future!
