pdpwcd
new kid here should I go ahead and get new rocker box cover gaskets when I do 12000 mile valve check or can the old ones be reused Link to comment
JR356
Old gaskets can be reused at least once, likely several times, just inspect and clean and watch that they seat properly and cover bolts are properly torqued. JR356 Link to comment
TEWKS
watch that they seat properly and cover bolts are properly torqued. JR356 Good point, honestly I haven't had the covers off of the Wet Head but on the older Hex Heads, you can easily snap the bolts if over torqued. Unless you absolutely trust the settings on your T wrench, I'd hand tighten them. Pat Link to comment
LAF
They can be used over and over and over. They are on with 10 Nm. As said make sure they are clean and lint free, and only use 10Nm on the three bolts. Dealers love the 12K to get 69 bucks EACH for those gaskets! Link to comment

Skywagon
I haven't opened this bike up either. There is a company that makes great silicone gaskets for older BMW bikes as in airheads. I use them for gaskets on the airplane. I think I'll write them and see if they will make gaskets for the wethead. Their valve cover gaskets are in the $20-30 range... https://realgaskets.com/product-category/motorcycle/bmw/page/2/?orderby=date Link to comment
profbodryak
Once at the dealer, they didn't tell me they were going to be replaced and I forgot to ask. Pretty much 150 bucks out the door. Link to comment
