The Fabricator
I recently had occasion to test the sensors because I had a 1999 R1100R that was hard starting. After the engine started, it ran fine. I also tested the air temperature sensor on a 2000 R1150GS. I only tested the oil temperature sensor at room temperature (83). I started using a non-contact infrared thermometer and a heat gun. The non-contact thermometer was too variable and the sensor cooled too fast, so I switched to water and a dial faced stick thermometer. I found the oil temperature sensor was open circuit. After replacing it [$20 ebay inc shipping!] the engine started easily. Link to comment

The Fabricator
Did you have any faults on the Motronics for the oil temp sensor? I didn't think to access the outputs from the Motronic. That's done by grounding something then counting blinks of something else, right? or use GS-911 device? Link to comment
