Oldrider51
I just picked up a 2016 R1200 RS that had 3000 miles on it and it is very cherry with a lot of extras, however, the previous owner added a Puig License plate support with an LED license plate light and this has caused the warning light in the panel to come and indicate a rear light is out. All lights work, turn, brake, and tail. The original was an incandescent. Has anyone done this and what is the fix? I think the Can-bus system is looking at resistance, but not really that sure. Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment
TestPilot
It's not the CAN bus, it's the module that monitors the current in the various systems. The LED brake light draws much less current than the OE incandescent bulb, which is causing your light out indication. The solution would be to add a resistor in parallel to the LED to increase the current draw. The required resistance will depend on the wattage of the original bulb. You could also see if your dealer could reprogram the module to accept the LED without a fault. Link to comment
