Interesting. It's like the extended swingarm thing you find in some parts of the US. One of those cultural things that someone did, and others said, "Hey, that looks kind of cool." Those 30" front wheels on some HD cruisers is another example. Not practical, but within a group it becomes a badge of inclusion.

Sort of like dropping a modern V-8 into a Model A...

Not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not my personal preference
