You're possibly right. however, the bolts are BMW's shouldered bolts - like the rest of the fairing bolts. My BMW dealer gave me an acceptable discount. .

Well thanks to all of you. The kit all fitted perfectly and with the photographs and SweRT's pdf provided on the R1200RT forum it was a doddle. Now when I get out in the rain, I will give you feedback as to if I think it is worth it. So far, I think they are worth paying more than the alternative ones that are available because of the fit, finish and integration.

Has anyone fitted the BMW Weather protection kit (see http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=56209&diagram=46_1708&partnumber=46638548482) fiche # 46-1708

If so, do you have any hints and tips on fitting it? Any instructions that came with it etc?

Thanks

I fitted these bits to my RT a year back and they are really good, just cannot work out why they are not fitted to every bike. The weight and cost savings must be very small.

I cannot remember if they can with instructions but I think they may have, anyway fitting was not difficult but was a bit fiddly.

Hope this helps.

I have a standard civilian model RT and also have a 2016 RT-P that came with the kit installed on it. I can tell a big difference when it is raining with the amount of road spray and water on my feet and lower legs. I have been meaning to get the kit and install it on my other bike as well.

It does not affect air flow in any negative way. It was designed by BMW for the BMW R1200RTW.

It has a positive effect on airflow because it reduces turbulence around the shin and ankle are of both the rider and the pillion.

For winter and rain protection on my 2007 R1200 rt I bought these several years ago.

I give them an A+ for keeping your feet dry and diverting cold air. Easy to R&R when it warms up. I leave the brackets on all year long.

I also added these http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcycle/8600312-373.html to divert air off the arms. I give them a C+ when used with a stack windscreen. I think they

are designed to work perfectly with the Marathon windscreen. It is wider and fills in the gap.

I might buy the marathon screen this year.

Very easy to install (ten minutes) if you leave the bracket in place all year long.
