Funny, we used to ride to Julian for pie on weekends. Haven't seen anything about that lately.

Hi Bill, Yes, I thought so too. Although also found some roads that were that were not.
Found Pala Temecula Rd to be marked 'Private, No Entry" (and an other big sign with some language I could not even recognize).
FOund Liley Rd to be a dirt road off of CA-76, and I dont mean gravel, I mean dirt.
And that is when I found Cole Grade Rd, and I figured any road with "grade" in the name is worth a try, thinking of Palomar SOuth Grade and East Grade.

Later thought of Crouser Canyon Rd. I see is marked with a 1 & 4 on the map.

SonInLaw suggested the De Luz and other roads north of Fallbrook, as he said someone suggested it to him. I was a bit concerend that it may not be far enough away from suburbia.... but I was wrong.

I expect to be back in the area in May and again in August.
Should chat with you sometime about some other roads up there in northern SD county, with now being in Oceanside (I-5 & CA-76 area).

Yah, no tools between the two of us. Me not having any tools being away from home like that, and, really isnt much of anything that I could do on the 1150RT bike anyway.
And he didnt have any tools, just because he doesnt..
I told my son in law that on my bike at home (82 Suzuki GS1100GK) I carry a tool kit I asseembled, and actaully carry some spare parts if going out of town -- and that really surprised him.
Hee Hee, on my next trip out there, I should get a little took kit to carry on my bike, and tell my SonInLaw it is for his bike har har har

Julian is higher elevation, so was snowing there a couple days.
That Julian Pie Company building in my picture is in Santa Ysabel.
THe H-Ds parked there (not the group leaving) was interesting in that was a group of German (?) tourist on rental(?) H-Ds. One guy strolled over to take a quick look at the RT, just a quick look in passing.

Last couple times I was to Julian, Feb last year and the year before, the place was jammed with tourist.... and that was in Febuary. Mid 80s in San Diego and mid-low 60s up there in Julian.

I think you must have missed a turn somewhere. Pala-Temecula is definitely not private. I don't know about any "Liley". Did you mean Lilac? Also paved.

Yep, that's a good one.

Yah, probably missed something.... or I was an idiot that day or something.
I was on CA-76, past Rice Canyon (that had rode the prior day), and I thought the GPS was showing I was at Pala Rd, but was big "private" signs there. Which was surprizing since is marked as S16 on the map.
Have looked on Google maps just now and I cant figure out were I was then, maybe I was at Pala-Somethingelse road. And now I see that Pala-Temecula Road doesnt actually meet CA-76, but is there in town near the light and the casino. Okay, I can find it next time.

So went further east, to what I thought was Lilac (yah, Lilac not Liley), turned south on that and in about 1/4 miles was a dirt road.
Google Map Link Liliac Rd

So went further east on CA-76 yet and saw the Cole Grade Road and took that just to explore, and that was good.

Oh, Ah, Ahh-Haa, now I see, I went to where Liliac Rd meets CA-76, should have taken the Liliac Extension Rd.

.
Next trip out there, the top of my list is Palomar Mt (have done on 2 prior years) and Ortega Highway.
And har har har Pala-Temecula Rd and Liliac Extension/Liliac Rd.

.

Thanks for the pics. Seems like the left coast guys don't write as many ride tales as in the past. I always relied on them to help me get through the cold Indiana winters.

Maybe they don't want to get out when it is so terrible cold, you know, 62 degrees.

So this mid-western guy had to go out there and do it.

A lot of us moved on to other things. Some started a family. Others retired and moved away. Many had to suck it up and get a real job. It sure was a lot of fun!
