Doug 55
My beloved 2003 1150GS, bought almost new, now "somehow" has 80K miles and needs repair of $2500 engine / clutch* & new shocks so I am thinking better to put the $ into a newer/lower mileage bike * lifter clatter hoped to be the $XXX cam chain tensioner found to be the $XXXX cam chain guide + preemptive clutch Sadly the GS is,economically, either a 'mechanics special' or sell for parts so I am wondering about the sell it to beemer boneyard option; does anyone know the pros and cons of that process? TIA for any advice! Link to comment
Jim Moore
Sorry to hear that. It's not a common failure, but not unheard of. Replacing an engine on one of these things is not really that hard. there are always a bunch of engines of sale on eBay. I've also heard of guys replacing the rail without splitting the engine. You may want to look into that. Link to comment
