mmaiers92
My 2004 r1150gs keeps going to neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Ive tried all sorts of methods of shifting, it does this about 50-60 percent of the time. What is this an indicator of? Worn shift fork? Bearings? Link to comment

Unfortunately it can't tell us where the problem is. It might internal, like a shift fork, or shift drum, or slider/dog, or worn shaft bearing. Or it could be external, like a loose shift lever on the trans stub shaft (somewhat common), or worn shift linkage, or the shift linkage is dry of lube, or the foot shift lever is contacting with, or interfering with, something on the shift. About all you can do is verify that the external shifting parts are not loose, that the small shift lever on the trans stub shaft is tight, that the foot lever is traveling full travel without interference, then lubricate the shifting lever pivot & link ball joints. (if this stops the problem then you are golden). If the above doesn't stop your shifting problem then you will either have to live with it or remove the trans & disassemble for inspection of internal parts. Link to comment
