longjohn
I decided to take the long way to Kernville and invited any and all comers to join me. We started on Thu morn. I had expected Bill and Dennis and Carla to meet me near Lax, for the ride up to Kernville, and they showed up right on time, but so did Carl! We departed about 9:45 and headed up the 405>10>PCH>Topanga. Unfortunately Dennis and Carla missed the 10 offramp and got separated from us and decided to head off on their own. So Carl and I waited at Topanga for Bill who arrived shortly thereafter, and we were off Here is a sample of views from Saddle Peak Rd There is a pullout at the intersection of Saddle Peak Rd, Stunt Rd and Schueren Rd where you can see the SFV and the Pacific. On clear day it is a stunning view but this day was hazy We made it over to Mulholland Dr where I pointed out the Rock Store, which was closed. This is the last turn on The Snake. A well known section of road frequented by Hooligans. At the intersection of 23+Mulholland I spied Carl and Bill coming up from behind in my mirror. We headed up the 23 thru Westlake, Moorpark and hit the Grimes Cyn twisties. Winds were forecast that day but luckily they were not nearly as bad as I've seen there. No puckers! Then we got on to S Mountain Rd where there was still some wind which was dislodging palm fronds. The second pic here is a zoom in of the first: airborne frond. We bypassed Fillmore and ate lunch in Santa Paula Then we headed up 150 to Ojai to gas up. Here is the decent into Ojai Valley. And on to 33 N out of Ojai. On the downslope into Maricopa I spotted a Condor (that's my story and i'm sticking to it). It was huge. After a pit stop in Maricopa we headed over to 178. And we rolled into Kernville at 4:45, right on time. Wheeeew. Uh oh, here comes trouble. Hi Carla That's it for day 1. Link to comment
Bill_Walker
Great pics, John! They almost make me feel like I was there. Oh, wait, I was! A great reminder of a great ride. Sad that the Santa Monica mountains were on fire the next day. Never having ridden most of those roads before, I'm glad I got to ride through there before it burned. Link to comment

TEWKS
Nice Pics. It sure does look dry out there. Edit... Seeing Bill's post, makes sense now. Pat Edited November 23, 2018 by TEWKS Link to comment
longjohn
Nice Pics. It sure does look dry out there. Edit... Seeing Bill's post, makes sense now. Pat Thanks. When the humidity gets into the low teens and single digits, and the winds pick up, all hell can break loose. If there was only some way to get some of the moisture that gets dropped in the E half of the US over to the W. Link to comment
longjohn
Nice! I know you have more. Out with 'em! Thanks. Yes I have more. 10s of 1000s more So I have to pick and choose... It is fun to go pick by pic thru some of the locales tho. I am able to mass-trash-pics thru some of the mundane parts, which helps. Edited November 23, 2018 by longjohn Link to comment

longjohn
Great stuff John, thanks for bringing us along and fun pics of Carl, Cornelis, and Carla. This one's my favorite. Great ride up that canyon in the evening light. Frame it! Thanks Sebastian. Here are some from day 2. Everyone is gearing up for the ride to DV, and most if not all have their warm gear on. Sierra Way took us out of Kernville along the North side of Lake Isabella. Here is the intersection of Sierra Way and 178. We turned North on 14 here, and I was starting to feel the temp dropping a bit, but when we hit highway speeds it started getting cold. And the further North we went the colder it got. I think we were approaching Olancha here, and you can see the Southern end of the Sierras. Just outside of Lone Pine we turned on to Lubken. Here you can see the Tuttle Creek area to the right. We stopped at Lubken and Horseshoe Meadow so that those that needed it, like me, could put on some warmer gear, as were on our way up to 9.5k'. A few of us were hoping to not get a repeat of the icy road that prevented us from reaching the top two or three yrs ago. Here is our fearless leader Mr. Duck, who once again this year put DV Daze together. Many thanks. And we headed up Horseshoe Meadow Rd. A view of Owens Valley. At the top are picnic areas and restrooms, and trail heads. Here we begin the descent. Another view of Owens Valley, 5k' below, and the very distant mountain range at the right edge of the pic is Panamint Range, which is between DV and Panamint Valley. This is looking down into the Alabama Hills/Lone Pine area, with the White Mts in the background. Day 2 to be continued... Link to comment
mrduck
👠The view on the way up there is spectacular, ya wanna look over the edge, but ya don't dare take your eyes off the skinny road....... Keep em coming, Tuttle Creek is something everyone should see! Thanks John..... Don J Link to comment
longjohn
Here ya go Don, the continuation of day 2: The decent from Horseshoe Meadow is finishing up. Heading towards the Tuttle Creek area, with the Sierras on the left and the White Mts. on the right. A few Cotton Woods were still displaying their colors. Here we are entering Tuttle Creek area. This is a crop of the pic that follows it. Lunch was next at the Alabama Hills Cafe. Great food, big portions, and pie! The next stop was Father Crowley Overlook on 190, elev about 4200' which gives you a view into Panamint Valley, and Rainbow Cyn, where jet fighters of various countries can be seen zooming by, if you're lucky. And then the decent down into Panamint Valley starts here. Day 2 to be continued again... Edited December 9, 2018 by longjohn Link to comment
