Does anyone have suggestions on image hosting. I tried imageshack. The first four pictures were easy, although the links were always a struggle to make them work. Now,I can't load a fifth picture for the life of me. I can see the first four, but number five, fuggheddabouttitttt.

Smug mug is great, but $40 a year. I have a friend that uses it.

Is there something that is free, and easy to use, that supports links for imagehosting in forums?

Nearly there - just do not use the URL tag on the post editor - simply paste in the code starting [img] and ending in [/img] from the Image Shack site.

I have spent a lot of very frustrating time but I think that I have got it. I used imageshack and imagefuse for free photo hosting, and personally I like imagefuse more. When they have their list of code I use the first hotlink for forums.

What it really nets out at is if you can take the link, everything starting at http and ending in .jpg and put it in the address bar of your web browser and see the photo that you want, then you will have a good link. There were some strange variations of the address from imageshack such as [image] http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nixienixie4si.jpg[image]

I don't have a clue what that .php stuff is in the middle. Once you have a good address, just put it in between either:

[image] [/image]
or
[img] [/img]

It took me a lot of frustration and getting angry at my computer to figure this out. Thanks for the help. Here is the above link, inbetween the img in brackets. If you use the instant UBB code link and pop up window by hitting image, it is a lot less stressful. Maybe some day we can just cut and paste in the picture!

So you did all this to save $40/year? Most photo sites that are free intentionally make it hard to do what you are trying to do because they're supported by advertising and have no interest in being an image hosting site.

If you buy internet access from somebody, many of them include some sort of hosting. But it seems to me that your time and peace of mind are worth $40/year.

Photobucket seems pretty darn easy for a free photo hosting site. Just point and click.

...and click...

I haven't got the picture sizing figured out yet. But, it will come.

I pre-size my pics using Irfanview. This is a free image manipulation software that will allow all sorts of image transformations.

Jerry, your problem is that the URL you are pointing to is not actually a jpeg, it's a program that runs on photobucket to load the image. You have to have the actual jpeg file directly hosted somewhere to include it in an [image] tag. There may be a way to generate a photobucket address to do that but I don't know photobucket at all.

Edit:

Signed up for a Photobucket account, but even their IMG link doesn't seem to load, strange

I think something is wrong with either the code on this page or from using the "quote" feature from a previous response.

When I tried to use "quote" and show you an example of how I use photobucket, it just gives me the written link, similar to yours.

When I hit "reply and use the "Image" link, it works just fine.

Example:
