That would be so cool! (Pun intended!)

For us at least, this UN is shapping up to be more a 'do things' UN than a ride-ride-ride one. That's good too!

Joyce and I depart for Nova Scotia on the 12th. Can we make the Ben and Jerry's run on Tuesday the 11th?

Plus, you do not want me picking a route. Any volunteers? (Ken)

Since you are heading that way, you might do a more northern route back and visit Cabot Cheese in Cabot,VT. They have a very good factory tour.

Being a fireman, I know exactly where that place is. WTH does that have to do with knowing where B&J's is you ask? confused

Simple, (Cops=Donuts-----Firefighters=Ice Cream) Yup, It's a well known fact.

Funny... I wasn't sure people were going to want to push this far west. I have a good sized loop mapped out that takes you right by Cabot Cheese (near Montpelier), Vermont Teddy Bear (Burlington), and Ben & Jerry's (Burlington). Here is the google map and I will highlight the locations plus any others people mention. We hope to formally recon this route within the next week or so but all indications are that it's very nice riding. A direct roundtrip is 210 miles in 4 hours while the loop below is 320 miles in 9 hours. These don't include any stop time.

click on google maps link here

I have this in a Garmin file too if needed.

Remember that the Group dinner will be Tuesday night. We're also going to try to get as many people there so that Roy can take a group photo too.

If it's going to be a long day, maybe we should make the ice cream run on Monday. Either way is fine with us.

Personally, and this is just my sometimes sore butt talking, to maximize “ice cream eating time” we’d likely favor the quick and dirty route. Especially given the need to be back for the dinner if we go on Tuesday.

Monday, might be a bit iffy for those of us who have already been on the road for days? Monday as a bit of a rest day? We are not considering Wednesday as a possible B&J day?

What day is being considered to scale Mt. Washington?

Just throwing random thoughts out here...

How about we wait till we get there and then see if anyone wakes up one day and feels like going for ice cream?

You know Ken... I'm not sure of your pied piper route to/from Edmonton but there is always the option of stopping in Burlington for ice cream on the way.

From the Ben & Jerry's Web site.

Group Reservations:
Call 802-882-1240 x2285 Monday-Friday
Reservations are highly encouraged for groups of 10 or more.
Groups that reserve tours are required to arrive at the ticket desk no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time of their reserved tour (ie arrive at 1:45 for the 2:00 tour reservation.) If this is not the case the tickets will be released to the next people in line and the group will be accommodated on the next available tour.

More Info Here

I can call, but I'll need a date, time and the number of folks. Do we need to form a committee?

JMO on the subject. Set a depart time. String together some curvy roads there, have a nice fresh ice cream of your choice & then string together some curvy roads back. Win Win! thumbsup

Hi Tewks,

The direct route is actually pretty nice too. At a minimum you will take a sweeping Route 2 from Lancaster to Montpelier and from there can continue on Route 2 to Burlington or hop on the Interstate.

The larger loop will be even nicer for those looking for a longer ride.

Your task is to figure out a way to bring back some (unmelted) ice cream for me at UN HQ!... thumbsup

How about this? I propose the quick and dirty route shown here. Monday is kind of a rest day, this seems to fit the bill.

7:00 - Meet for breakfast
8:00 - Head out for Ben & Jerry's
10:30 - Take the tour
After - Find lunch and head back to HQ at your own pace.

The ONLY reason I'm listing times is that for groups of 10 or more we need a reservation. It will take about 1:45 to get there and groups need to arrive 15 minutes before the tour or they release the tickets. Max number in a group is 40.

PM me with a "IN" and number of people, before July 14. If we get 10, on the 14th I'll call and make a reservation for the group.

All that said, if you'd rather do something else, speak up.

OK, who wants ice cream?

Jim, I'm planning on getting there Sunday and leaving Friday, though the official announcement said "...arriving Monday, August 10th and departing Thursday, August 13th…". I think you'll find others are getting there Sunday as well -- how many I have no idea. No doubt those getting in Sunday will be doing something on Monday, however informally.

Me and Deb are game!

Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid-in-sideways, totally worn out, shouting, WOW, What a ride!

Hey!!! This is great! I'll have even more people to help me set up UN HQ! wink grin

Actually, I'm planning to drive the RV up Friday afternoon and leave enough time Saturday and Sunday to make sure everything is in order. UN HQ will be informally open by Sunday and you'll be able to grab route maps from me anytime. I'll also be posting up the final Garmin files later next week once I have a chance to make one more set of recon runs.

Something just came up that will most likely put me in New Hampshire on Friday and at the Un on Sunday...cigar and scotch in hand. (Downwind from Suzanne, of course wave)

We didn't get enough people to make a reservation. I'll probably still go on Monday, but am flexible. I'll keep the "IN" list in case more people speak up.

For anyone who happens to read this Sunday evening at the UN, the ice cream run to tour the Ben & Jerry's factory will leave Rogers Campground at 8:30 AM Monday morning.

It is a easy (not challanging) 80 mile ride over there, and tours are every half hour.

If we haven't gorged ourselves on free ice cream, we'll probably eat lunch somewhere afterwards and maybe (or maybe not) take a wandering path back.
