MCN's light comparo from Nov 2008 shows the PIAA Cross Countries (recommended) as having an effective distance of 250', and the Lazer Star HIDs as 200' (recommended). Actually, the plain old Lazer Star halogen (MR16, like Motolight) won the comparo. Over 250' illumination, and $160 for the PAIR instead of for one. A bulb burns out, and it's $7 instead of $70 - and you can get MR16 bulbs in any color you want, whitish, bluish, amber or whatever. Re current sraw, 8.25A for the halogen pair instead of ~5A for the HIDs - It's not like the RT is lacking in alternator capacity, so I don't see that as an issue at all, at least on this bike.
