Thanks for posting Effbee. I've been curious about this as I've heard some say don't take it off and others say you need it. I think i'll be deleting mine and adding a storage spot for my tire plug kit!

On a related note..thoughts on changing an 04 GS to have the fuel filter mounted external of the tank?

Not needed as it is only fitted on US market bikes - but it does remove the small amount of hydrocarbon emission from your tank.
