1996 R1100RT Transmission Question

Hi Guys,

Quick question for you old-school RT owners. Did the 96 RT come with a silver transmission or a black one?

It's black, the GS and R had the silver transmission.

I thought the black transmission showed up with the 1150RT/6 speed.

I had a 97. I sure don't remember that tranny being black. I guess maybe it changed from the 96.

I can only remember seeing black on the 1100RT, in fact I just installed a rear seal on a 1996 1100RT for a friend last week & it had the original trans (it was black).

That's not saying that BMW installed all black on the 1100RT as I suppose they could have used some 1100R silvers if they were short of blacks.

OK, thanks guys. I'm considering buying a black transmission out of a 96 RT. I was wondering if the black meant that it was a replacement, but I guess not.

Hi, I too was wondering what does the colour means. Knowing BMW thinking I'm sure it has to have a specific purpose.
