Command and Control Video

A chilling nightmare plays out at a Titan II missile complex in Arkansas in September, 1980. A worker accidentally drops a socket, puncturing the fuel tank of an intercontinental ballistic missile carrying the most powerful nuclear warhead in our arsenal...

We watched that the other night. Pretty scary stuff. I vaguely remember hearing about it on the news at the time.

There were something like 18 Titan sites here in Arizona, one of which has been preserved as a museum open to the public down south of Tucson. I think it's the only one still in existence. It even has a real Titan missile in it (no warhead or fuel, of course :) ). Might be an excuse to ride down there & have a look.

Detonable propellants = Bad. Same stuff that made the BFRCs (.... .... Red Cloud) at VAFB and CCAFS from time to time when the vehicles barely cleared the pad.

A bit overhyped on the warhead going high order though IMHO. Lots of safeties in those systems.
