I have tried Google Photos (ten million steps, and of course I always missed one), and Shutterfly, but the latter apparently no longer allows me to create a link.

Other sites (see ADVRider) allow direct upload. Sure makes it easier. I'm really surprised UBB doesn't allow this these days.

flickr.com is free, offers way more storage than I'll ever use. The links they provide for sharing my pictures include some extraneous info, but I can edit it out when I paste the link here.

Hosting here would be convenient, and help prevent dead image links, but someone has to pay for that storage.

As Larry said, storage costs money and pictures take a fair amount. There's additional cost for the increased bandwidth used if the picture is hosted here when its downloaded with the post. Also, there might be more internal administrative overhead. Taken all together the additional dollars and manpower might be prohibitive, or maybe not ...

The UBB software does allow direct uploading of photos. It is really a function of bandwidth and storage and it's associated cost. The Admin Team has been looking into this for a while now along with an upgraded version of the software. The next big release is due out soon, but the developers stop short of committing to an actual release date. Maybe the most exciting new feature(s) are the enhancements for mobile users. That, along with easier photo uploading will certainly make this forum more user friendly while we're all away riding and at events. thumbsup. Of course, if you drop your bike in the parking lot at the UN, a photo might pop up on Ride Tales before you've had the chance to pick it up. grin
