R1200RT Luggage Play

Greetings All,

I did a search on this and found plenty about the latch assembly, but nothing about how snugly the bags should be once locked onto the bike. My new-to-me 07 R12RT has a fair amount of play once locked to the bike and rattles around a bit. It seems secure, and is better when loaded, but it is enough to make me want to put some thin weatherstrip on the bag's attachment points. My R1150RT bags were solid once attached. What is a normal amount of play as they came from the factory?

Morning Fawudd

Kind of a known issue-- BMW has a service bulletin on this problem (sb#- 46 006 07 059) "Play at Saddlebag Mounts"

Next time you are at your BMW dealer see if they will pull you up that service bulletin (sorry I can't post it on line as it is BMW proprietary info & I don't have permission to do so)

Basically what is involved is installing selective-fit "L shaped" (BMW calls them clamps) to take the play out of the pannier retaining assembly.

I have done this to my personal BMW 1200RT & it does make a big difference on pannier rattle.

I think the parts needed (bag of select fit clamps) BMW pn: 46547712002 = SET OF CLAMPS WITH BRACKET is about $8.50 or so & might even be covered under a BMW good-will program.
