Well, that was a great START to the season

It was great to see everyone and thanks for participating in the mileage contest and supplying the photos to do so. We'll probably repeat that, so we can keep the memories digitally. Below are the photos sent to me...enjoy.

Made it home at 6:30 - nice ride early but got hot and a little rain towards the end. Getting too old for 700 miles in one day!

Thanks for a great venue and routes to Ken and Dave. This was a great START!

So.... whar is the story on the bird in the forks?

It's unusual for a nocturnal Bird of Prey to hunt during the day but the opportunity must have presented itself perfectly.

That was a wow pic for sure!

I got home yesterday but only because I have to leave for a work trip today. It was great catching up with everyone. Thank you Hugo (inside joke  )and Ken for putting together a truly excellent event.

Home safe in sound in Alexandria. Bob, and I, rolled out of the parking lot at 5:42 this morning, and I put the side stand down outside the garage at 3:10. Did a total of just over 1,800 miles for the trip. It was an outstanding get-together, with terrific riding. Many thanks to Ken, and Dave, for all their efforts. And kudos to Bernie for leading the pack I was in Thrs/Fri/Sat.

Home around 2:15 PM, pulled out this morning around 6:00 AM, after wishing Bob and Mark a good ride home.

Thank you to Ken and Dave for another great event, good motel, great routes and nearly perfect weather.

It was great to see a lot friends again and to make a few new ones. And as always it is great to put some faces and bikes with the board names.

Also a very special thank you to all the poor folk, Steve (Rightspin), Dave (working them angels), Bob (Endobobdds), Mark (marcopolo),

Keith (cyclingkk), Barry (K12Rider) and Peter (twistyguy) that followed me most of the weekend, we even got to practice our u-turns, one day 4 or 5 times. :dopeslap:

Overall I think I did 1,832 (s)miles and DoubleSIlver has passed the 181,000(s)mile mark and going strong. Knock on wood. :dopeslap::dopeslap::dopeslap:

I too arrive home in NW DC just about 3:10. Fantastic 5 days of riding, fellowship, and clearing of my mind. I certainly 2nd Marks kudos to Ken and Dave - it is clear that they both put a tremendous amount of effort into this START for all of us - Thanks!

Bernie - Thank you for allowing Mark and I to just show up and follow your modified routes - fantastic days of riding even with the rain and fog for a good part of it.

It was great seeing folks at this year's START. A big shout out to Ken and Dave for making this event possible. Folkdancer48 and I pulled out around 6:15 this morning, and I rolled into the garage at 1:40. We rode a little more than 1,400 miles for our trip. I'm looking forward to the next get-together!

Wow; what a great weekend. Excellent job, Dave and Ken. Special award to Medic Mike who, after getting his intercom working, had to endure Kenny Haynes and me blabbing in his helmet all day Saturday. Looking forward to next time!

Home at 12:15pm CST. It's 5:13pm and we are under a tornado watch. I am so glad I beat that home.

I had a great time, so good to see everyone! Hopefully I will see y'all again at the UN in June!

Nicol and I made it back home in time for the Predators game. Great fun seeing everyone again. Looking forward to the UN.

My friends from Clarksville, Gary and Jimmy, made it home as well, one saddle bag short. Gary dumped his CB750 on a low speed maneuver yesterday and apparently broke the lower bracket that held the vinyl bag off the exhaust. He failed to notice that. :dopeslap: Well, that bag burst into flame on I40 east of Knoxville. A vinyl saddle bag stuffed with a rain suit on fire with a 75 mph wind is quite spectacular from behind. It's like a roman candle shooting wads of molten plastic until the whole thing flies off in a big finale. All before you can get the bike pulled over. No damage other than the bag. And luckily there was no one behind him, except me.

Thought you were picking up I 20 and waved as we went down the road, white pick up.

Great event, great turnout.

Kudos to Ken, and Dave, outstanding job!

Beth and I got home in plenty of time to pick up McGruff from dog camp, cleaned the pool, and settled in.

It was wonderful to see so many friends, and make some new ones.

We needed this...

Best wishes to all.

I made it home about 10:30 last night. I stayed and watched the F1 race and then did some recon before heading for the Hoosier.

Ken and I would like to think everyone for a great START! We had 13 First Time Attendees this Spring and a couple of folks deserve a High Five:

Christopher (Id's_OK) won the total group mileage contest -

And to

BMW_KEN for the rider with the most out of route miles as a percentage compared to 'Googles' route mileage.

Also, a BIG SHOUT out to Joel for he design help and event stickers.

Got in at 2:30 pm from a hot and windy ride home. What a great trip. Hated to see it end. It was great to ride with the Florida Panhandle and North Carolina guys again as well as see old and meet new folks. Thank you Ken and Dave for the work putting this together. Mileage contest was a great idea that produced a of of good photos. Oh yeah, we finally figured how many BMW riders it takes to change a 2013 R1200RT headlight. (I counted nine in one of the photos) See you in the Fall.

I got home at 2:30PM this afternoon. I stayed at our oldest son's house in Cincinnati last night. It was windy and raining most of the way home today.

Thanks to Dave and Ken for organizing another great event. I really enjoyed it.

Aren't you supposed to stick a fork in your bird to see if it's done?

You're not supposed to stick a bird in your fork.

Glad the bike took the hit and not the rider; a bird like that in the head or chest could take you off the bike.

Back in 2002 one of our riders hit a Canada goose with the fairing on his Triumph (Daytona, I think); shattered the windscreen, then wrecked the visor mechanism on his helmet and bruised his shoulder pretty good, though he did manage to stay on the bike.

Just a couple more Administrivia Notes:

I apologize if we didn't have a chance to meet/greet you personally! Once the event STARTS, The Watchmaker speeds up the passing of time and I just didn't get to everyone. Ken had to leave a day early and feels the same way.

We'll be posting the FART announcement soon, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, post your pictures and stories here and remember the UN Rally June 26 - 29th.

Last, but not not least - A Big Thanks to Craig AKA TaTass for his invaluable helpfulness in making for a smooth Co-Hosting Transition!

I wanted to thank everyone, Dave and Ken for the open arms on my maiden BMWST gathering. It was nice to finally put faces to screen names. Steve and Chris need to become BMW salesmen, they just about got me to buy a GS. Jim and Ken, thank you for allowing me to join you two on Saturday. It was a great ride and time on the road.

Lastly....I still want to know the final answer on the Flying Squirrel Crossing debate.

Hopefully see everyone at FART.
