Though this would make a good bike for the "Craigslist find of the day" thread. I decided to put it here and see how quickly someone spots the reason for the Subject: See Anything Unusual?

Tough one, looks legit to me. :dontknow:

Not the legit part...there is something unusual about a part of the bike.

Yeah, should have said the bike looks legit. (all there) I thought for a minute the blue frame was unusual for that time period on a relatively low budget Japanese motorcycle but Google stole that winning answer from me. :ohboy:

Like the old Honda 80 mph speedometer.

Actually 85, but the speedometer is what stuck out when I looked at the picture.

And did we really need the 85 mph speedo when 55 mph was the national speed limit?

Bad memories.

85 MPH speedo

In September of 1979, the National Highway Traffic Safety

Administration (NHTSA) passed a bill which stated that all car,

pickup truck and motorcycle speedometers were to display a

maximum speed of 85 miles-per-hour. This federal regulation also

required speedometers to have a special emphasis on the number

55 (the national speed limit at the time).

The 85 mph speedometer mandate ended in 1981 after much debate

and little proof it actually did anything to change driver

behavior. President Ronald Reagan, who campaigned on a pledge

to end excessive government regulation, helped repeal the law.

There has never been any data showing that the 85 mph speedometer

saved lives.

Gas forks?

Note the sticker on left handlebar indicating desired fork air pressure. And there appears to be a hose attached to the fork tops. Honestly, I don't have any idea. I just know my bike doesn't have that.

So would that be an air spring, like an air-ride bag?

That's normal for that period. It added pre-load by pressurizing the column of air above the oil level. I had two of them, an '81 CB 750, and an '84 VF750R. They had two problems:

1) As the bikes aged, air tended to leak past the fork seals, so the system required frequent refills/adjustment.

2) Recommended pressure was so low, it was difficult to get the proper pressure. Most air sources couldn't be dialed down that low. And most gauges don't read that low. The one in the ad calls for 10-16 psi. If I remember correctly, my VF was 6-8 psi. It really required a dedicated pump -- which nobody had. So you kinda guessed, and hoped for the best.

That said, I don't see anything out of the ordinary on the bike.

Were this a Yamaha XS750, the bike would be fine. But it's a Honda CB750, so there's a problem here
