Recently, PB changed their hosting tiers without notice and are'blackmailing' users to make the links to forums, boards and blogs work.

This will no doubt have a significant impact on threads here at BMWST.

Maybe this is a good time for the board owners to revisit how photos are posted to this site and to consider the ability to host photos?

Chrome and Firefox browsers both have extensions that somehow make PB links magically re-appear. I don't know how they work, but I've not seen the 3rd-party-hosting image since I installed the Chrome version. Search for "Photobucket" within your browser's extension library.

Flickr was recently purchased by SmugMug, but they claim no changes are planned (for now?). I don't find the site to be intuitive, but it still offers 1 TB of storage for free.

I used to use Picasa for that sort of thing, but then it became google photos and stopped working here - in 2016 I started using Flickr (I think I already had an account from the Yahoo days there, but hadn't really done anything with it) - it took just a bit to get used to and I've been happy with it since. Works great here and on ADV and the few other places I post pics.
