Rode from vancouver airport to crescent city, ca. Great to be back in kali. After filtering in europe, splitting was fun as I crossed the border. :thumbsup:

Rode with Phil and others out of the dark into a beautiful sunrise. Then enjoyed breakfast and Spot's tales of heat, deer, rain and trailmix on the go. Congrats again and for a great cause to boot.

Put new PR3s on. Gonna chase Bernie and others tomorrow.

Burned and I do mean BURNED two tanks of gas chasing Bernie, Bil and Huzband all over SE GA with a great bowl of white bean chicken chili in the middle. No photos but it did happen.

After reading about Phil making his 50CC, loaded the bike with the wife and set out through Rocky Mountain Natl Park, Granby and on to Glenwood Springs CO. 291 miles.

Today, to Moab via 128 through what may or may not have been Cisco. What a road and canyon. Loved it!!!!!!!!! Then, up 191 to Duchesne. Again, what a road and canyon. The little offshoot canyons just after splitting off of 6 and the terrain were amazing. Then to Park City, UT. 443 miles.

 

A day of wondrous first sights, nice twisties and little heat. Can't say the same for tomorrow as we bomb run the home stretch.

After that, I escorted our Boy Wonder to the Ga. welcome station on I-75 where he would meet up with his old friend, & Engineer, Ralph. After that, I hauled west to Meet Bernie & others to smoke the back roads of of S. Ga. & N. Fl on the way home.

 

Mission Accomplished! :thumbsup:

The bridge was out, but there was a hard dirt road around. You didn't have to go back. But I suppose Bernie explained that at Starbucks. Where I don't go. :grin:

Replaced a Tranny output seal on Stoner, my 99 R1200C. Took more time than I wanted it to as I did not get too lucky in pulling out the supporting shop rag inside the torque tube when inserting the final drive splines. It took many tries and 3 of the 4 times the splines seated in the driveshaft, the rag did not have enough clearance to pull out without the FD spider also pulling out.

 

IMO this is not the best solution to handle the job according to Clymer. I have done it much quicker in the past but may of gotten lucky. I am 1/2 tempted to pick up a spare swing arm and experiment with a drilled hole on the bottom then support the drive shaft with a jig so it is perfectly centered in the tube. Upon completion, drop the jig and use a hole cover with some silicone.

 

If someone has a better solution than Clymer, Please PM me to share info.

Had the day to myself so I took a little spin on the bike. Took off from Castaic and went up Lake Hughes Road, went north on Pine Canyon to the 138. Went east on the 138 to the 14. Went up to Mojave and had lunch. Went west on the 58 to Bakersfield, south on the 99 to the 5 and home again. Nice ride. Little warm, breezy in places but not bad.

I did not have to visit my Dad, I am always here with him although with his Alzheimer's, he often forgets so, My Son and Daughter came to us today. I rolled the toys out of the stable and made things tidy while waiting for them. There were sweet moments when My grand daughter of 4 played with my niece of 6 My son for the first time saw my Hack. We had the cursory poses of the Family all together and some with the girls on the bike and another with my Son and I suited up before a ride to his Mothers house for a night before he flies back out to Nashville TN, I am not so sure he enjoyed riding in it but he said it was quite different than his ride at home. Unfortunately his ride was torched before he came here/ He told me it was done by his Roomie's Girlfriend. He is not sure what his plans will be for a bike in the near future.

 

It was a Happy Father's Day!

On the new F800-GS, I Got the Altrider crash bars mounted. Installed Pivot-Pro foot pegs. Also got the Zumo 665 installed with the Touratech locking mount (Thanks for the base, Phil!), and converted the stock power outlet to direct to battery (through fuse).

After that, I decide it was time to ride a bit. A loop of the East side of Lake Tahoe fit the bill. Up Kingsbury Grade. Over US50 and SR28 then down Mt. Rose Hwy. At the bottom of MRH, turn around and go back up to SR28. Eventually return down into Carson City via US50.

From a handling perspective, my RT is in trouble... The 800 just makes it so effortless. I'm still breaking the 800 in, and was behaving myself, but it sure was fun!

670 miles to get home from Park City, UT.

Two tanks of 36 and 38 mpg due to headwinds and my preferred sustained speed that can otherwise get me 48-50 above 4000 ft elevation. Hot. Real hot.

Fog/conspicuity light fell off 10 miles from home. Hanging by the HID wires. Strong wires!

6 days of riding, 5.5 days of conference. 2990 miles. No bike problems except for breaking the operators seat tab that locks into the pillion seat. I did a fix a year ago. This time, I upgraded with new wire and JB Quick.

 

My new work laptop doesn't "fit" into the top case. I can get it in there and close it but, it doesn't really fit. I'm pretty sure it'll go into a 1200RT top case of 49L. Hmmmmmm. ;)

Yeah, me 4. I rode the grueling 6.4 miles to work and even rode an additional mile to/from lunch! Oooh! Am I an endurance rider or aren't I?

Well, like most every work-day, I commuted to the office this morning, and that will at some point, lead to the commute home! about 62 miles round trip per day, 5 days a week. Too bad there are no really entertaining roads between home and the office . . . Still, it's much better than being in the cage.

Today (and yesterday) I rode 287 miles between home and St. Louis for a meeting.

 

I will say that the R1100RT is a VERY comfortable bike. However, I do not see how the Iron Butt and Butt Burner guys do it. My ass totally hurts. I stopped twice one the way (once to eat, once to pee/fuel up) and once on the way home to fuel up/drink/pee.

 

The heat being in the upper 90s didn't help either. I did wear a mesh jacket, full face helmet, jeans and full finger gloves to keep from getting fried. The other bikes looked at me funny, but the mesh jacket is cooler than a t-shirt and the sun burn on the Harley guys was just ridiculous!

Rode the new RT to work :clap: . Wonderfully smooth on the freeway. Tried to sneak it in before anyone else got there but, got caught by Sacto929 who had left his GS at home. He said something about being impulsive and then drooled. :P

 

The 12RT is a bit more cold blooded than the 1100, stalled twice coming home. Mostly due to my low rpm, clutch saving, roll off style. Might have to adjust that style or wait and see what it does post break-in.

No riding in a week. I'm getting the DT's. Damned Tropical Storm Debby with her winds and downpours. One tourist I'll be happy to see head north.

Rode about 270 miles to and from Taveras, FL for a borrring required continued education class in the middle of TS Debby. Good test of waterproofing of my gear. It still keeps me dry. It was also a good exercise in wet weather riding, lots of fun. :)

This may have been the last perfect weather day for the season. Low humidity, maxxed out in the upper 70's. Had no choice but to blow off my list of things to do and go for a 5 hour lunch ride.

On a section of twisty road, I was following a slower pick up truck looking for an opportunity to pass when a ground hog ran out to cross the road in front of him. The truck hit the whistle pig and spun him around. Those things are really solid and really tough. He was disoriented and first ran one way and then turned and ran back in his original direction. Meanwhile the truck went on down the road and I was left applying brakes and waiting for the ground hog to make up his mind as to direction. Not a panic situation; I had time and space to slow down to a crawl and didn't pass the injured party until he was almost off the road and heading for the field beyond.

Well, so far: I rode 10 miles to work (beautiful weather); rode 10 miles home (damn, forgot the key card again) - still beautiful weather; rode another 10 miles to work again (gorgeous weather); and....

What the heck - I may just say "screw work" and go out for a decent ride!

Wow! Sounds like you and I had the same kind of day (only my milage is slightly less). :dopeslap::rofl:

 

[Edit: Oh I also forgot ... I rode on my new Touratech, Long Distance Comfort LOW seat. Well, I can nearly flatfoot my GSA now. When my somewhat shortened Wilbers come it, it'll be perfect for my short legs. The new LDC is more comfortable than stock at short distance.

Took the wife around the block to see how she felt on the motorcycle.

 

She is still scared to death and I never left first gear.

 

Was kind of a relief. I do not REALLY care for 2 up riding.

I changed out the PR3 tires on the R12RT. This is the result of 4200 miles of Appalachian riding. No, there were no track days involved.

Notice the scalloping on the edges of the rear tire. This is the second set of Michelin's that have done this to me. The first was a set of PR2's.
