First time I saw the GS in Kalamata I thought it was a U.S. Army issue motorcycle. As for y'all who don't care for the "Goldilocks" wheels, all I can say is don't make me go all SonofSaturn on your butts!

I skipped over this thread because gold wheels, no. But it sure took a turn there for a while, old FT days coming back.

Since it's back to gold wheels, I'm out.

The first post with gold wheels actually looks pretty good. Don't tell anybody I said that.

I know, that was unexpected (was it even related :dontknow:) I’m not going back to reread but it was kind of fun. :classic_laugh:

Every now and then, one of these will pop up on govdeals.com.  All the ones I've seen had ultra low mileage,.....tan ones "sorta" have gold rims;)

FuelUniverse >> Kawasaki KLR 650 ¿¡Diesel?!

Military Custom Kawasaki KLR650 Converted to Run on Diesel Fuel

And they'll sell for $8-12k

Do you lean more towards being a tan, or a green soldier? Oops, I did it again! :dopeslap: :classic_biggrin: JP8 is just really clean diesel, least that’s how I understood it. Would those bikes run on regular pump diesel? I would think yes but… :dontknow:

Well I think I found a solution which should satisfy both the silver and gold rim crowd.

One thing that's always confused me about the gold rims is why are the hubs black?  On my 2015 GS I have silver rims and silver hubs.  2019 black rims and black hubs.  But the gold is a mix.

Nah, blue anodized wheels were the original cool setup : )

Gold wheels are from the 70's when BBS started making modular 3 piece wheels for race cars (so you could change widths, and tires w/o a tire machine) then it became a thing and morphed into street cars.

JP8 is basically kerosene. I suspect they would actually run better on diesel we lost a little power in the Bradley when we made the switch in Desert Shield. The switch made since for the Army as we only needed one fuel for all ground and aviation equipment. My Bradleys went through 3 or 4 sets of fuel filters at first because the JP8 killed the algae and loosen up the crud in our fuel cells.

I forgot about those!

A friend of mine said her sister arrived to pick her up to go shopping with really bad spinner hub caps on her crappy Ford Escort, so cheap that they rubbed as they spun, making a nice tin clinking sound as they spun.

She looked at them, looked at her sister, and said, "Nope", and went back in the house.

Oh lord I just had flashbacks to when we converted our F-16’s from JP-4 to JP-8. So, so many fuel leaks, fuel probe issues, and incorrect fuel readings we encountered.  It took us months to get those things dialed in.  Shudder.

Nice! You're letting your inner pimp come through! By the way, is it me or has this thread gotten way off track? Not that I give a damn......where's @dirtrider?? I feel the need to discuss welding techniques.

I keep coming back to this thread with hopes that someone's reply reveals how to make the spoked gold and black wheels work on a K1300S...

Yes, I love the look and would buy in for sure!

Up thread before the pimp-daddy spinning wheels I mentioned BBS of Germany made the first gold racing wheels which more or less started the fad. I can't find it now but you can buy their wheel paint in aerosol cans. It's not cheap (saw it earlier on ebay for $57.) because they use actual gold flakes mixed with clear to get the proper color. Don't be fooled by imitators, it's not the same.

Edit, in the early 80's Yamaha made some limited editions called Midnight Specials that were black with gold wheels and hubs. Don't know if you can still get the paint but they looked good and were very close to BBS gold.

I'm a fan of the gold wheels. I like to think I started the trend way back when I had a set of gold wheels built by Woody's for my F800GS. Love the gold wheels on my current F850GSA.

Now the triple black, I just can't understand why anyone would want that. :stir:
