gear oil for transmission on a 2012 rt

I know it has been talked to death but I am having trouble finding the specified gear oil for the transmission.  Would it hurt to use 80w140 to hopefully help it shift a bit quieter and would it be ok to use oil with anti slip additive?  Thanks

That is pretty thick, you might be better off with 75w90 gear oil.

As for limited slip additive in the gear oil, some do it without issues but personally I don't recommend it if you can avoid it.

Around where I live, 75w90 is ,much easier to find then 80w140

Does the oil need to be gl5 and how about full synthetic?

BMW's original recommendation was Castrol SAF-XO.

Castrol SAF-XO is a 75w90 GL-5 gear oil.
