Zweiradfreak
I try to connect a Zumo 660 to my 08 1200GS. I located the pre-wired GPS connector which has three wires going into it. Those connector wires should be switched power via ignition. I checked the hot wire on that connector with the ignition off and on and it's hot in both positions. Now I am confused. If I want to connect the two wires from the GPS {red and black) to that connector how should it be done? The other option is to buy the BMW GPS cable which plugs into the bikes pre- wired connector, but not into the GPS unit. If I cut that cable, does it has two wires or three wires going to the GPS unit? How would I connect the two GPS wires into the cut cable if there were three wires so it would properly function powered with the ignition? Has anyone done this before and know how it's done? Any other solutions with switched power are welcome too! Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated. Franz Link to comment
bimmers
just get the connecting wire or connector from BMW. I did that and no problem with the 550. h Link to comment
ghan
Check the thread below, it may be useful for you. Remember that the hot lead from that connector will stay hot for about 30 seconds after the ignition is switched off. http://f800riders.org/HoW/showentry.php?e=29&catid=6 Link to comment
Zweiradfreak
Gary, thanks a lot for your great info. That was exactly what I needed to know. I ordered the BMW service connector which plugs into the pre-wired GPS connector on the bike. I then will solder the wires together like shown in your picture. Many thanks again Franz Link to comment
