Heating clothing with a portable battery

This is pretty speculative and since it is about mysterious batteries, I hope others can correct errors.

How far can heated clothing go on a battery? The WarmNSafe lithium battery (with a very complete spec sheet) is 7.4 volts at 5300 mAHrs and only 240 grams (about a half lb). For a DIYer, that's like 18 series/parallel NMH AA cells, roughly $50 or whatever bargains are available at your local surplus store.

The WarmNSafe battery is roughly 40 watt-hrs or roughly an hour of wear at whatever level of heat you get at 7.4 volts.

If you are going out for a short scoot, it sounds feasible enough to make and use a portable battery pack.

Are these reasonable guesstimates?

The WarmNSafe site mentions that their regular 90watt jacket will last about an hour with that battery pack, so you are right on.

If you are riding, why not plug in to the bike? Are you riding something with no reserve?

Thanks for info.

Riding a nice functioning R1100S. Just that umbilical cord to the accessory outlet seems strange to me. Just speculating. Recent years have seen such a vast increase in battery power at the AA-size - which might be the cheapest 2500 mAhr you can buy.
