Zumo 660

Sorry if this has been covered before but I am closing in on a purchase of a GPS. I have been looking at the reviews on this the Zumo 660 and am a bit perplexed. I will be using the 660 on my bikes and in my car.

It appears the early 660 had some shortcomings such as not showing cities, low volume outputs, no XM weather or traffic, etc. Has Garmin updated the software on this unit to take care of these issues? Do any significant issues remain?

Appreciate your experience and analysis. Merry Christmas too!

Not showing cities - ??? Mine does. What GPS wouldn't show cities? Isn't that kind of the whole point?

Low volume outputs - Seems to be a issue unique to some specific installation configurations / other items used with, connected to it. It's not clear it is a GARMIN issue.

XM - Nope. XM is a feature of the 550 not the 660

Traffic - Yes, with the optional traffic reciever

Sugnificant issues remaining - ??? Define "sugnificant." There's something to like/dislike about all products, eh?

Thanks, Ken. The reviews I read were posted a couple of months after the first release of the 660 and there were a number of folks critical of the points I mentioned above (I meant "names" of cities were missing). The authors speculated that the issues would likely be taken care of by software updates. I can't seem to find a more recent review so I am asking the Board to provide one.

By the way, say hello to Barb. You guys stayed with us in Old Forge on the way to the UnRally.

The cities issue was on early units. There were no names shown for the cities when viewing them map. It was fixed via a software upgrade freely downloadable from Garmin.

Thanks. I'll say hello to Donna for you if you don't tell her about "Barb." ;)

Zumo Forums is a good source of information, including on the 660: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php

The thing that torques me about that forum is that you have to register just to read it. No ‘lurking.’ My email address on yet another list somewhere – just what I need. Not.

That's why I have a Hotmail account that I use for just such purposes.
