Successful bed-in ride ....

I am out of here, as soon as my dentist lets me pull my helmet on Thursday AM. :grin:.....

Do I dare ask what a "bed-in ride" is?

You need to be careful of dentists! :grin:

Right now route plans are up in the air. Liftoff is tomorrow morning but forecast is heavy rain in the mid-Atlantic, so fun riding in VA/WV is out. I'll make some last hour decisions, but I'll be there.

Don't count me out 100% yet. I'm trying like hell to make it work. D is working a 12hr shift Friday night, and its our weekend with her daughter. If I can get a grand parent to step up to the plate or ship her off to her friends place for the night, then I could show up late Friday night. If not, then I'm still debating if I feel like riding ~1200 miles of slab in two days just to come hang out with you knuckle heads for a few hours. After all, I already paid for dinner :grin:

I've been meaning to check BRR road conditions, but kept forgetting until just now; apologies to people who may already be on the road.

Source: http://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm

There are no closures on the Parkway at this time, although tree trimming and continued cleanup from winter storms may cause short traffic delays in some areas. The Parkway information line at (828) 298-0398 has the most up-to-date and changing information about the Parkway.

I can't remember how long it's been since I read the words, "There are no closures on the Parkway at this time..."

If you've never ben there, the Cradle of Forestry is worth a visit. The fact that it is just off one seriously fun road (276) is a bonus, although the added traffic may for Saturday's event may be reason enough to avoid 276 if you're more interested in the ride.

Forest Festival Day

& Intercollegiate Woodsmen's Meet

Saturday October 2, 2010

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Location: Cradle of Forestry

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More than 50 traditional craftsmen, exhibitors and entertainers gather at the Cradle of Forestry to celebrate our forests and forest heritage. Highlights include: live music, wood carvers, weavers, blacksmith, and a John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmen's Meet.
If you've never been to a lumberjack competition, it's quite an experience.
Taking my time coming from Torrey, I'm in Mount Vernon Illinois. Was sure I'd get there tonight, but having such a slow take off this morning, I'll probably be there tomorrow before noon.
Just below Craggy there is shoulder work on-going That causes traffic to go to single lane where you await the escort truck. Took about 5 minutes per side. Not too bad really.
So I'm watching "Feasting on Asphalt" on the Food Network, and the host, Alton Brown is touring on his 1200RT. He stops in Cashiers NC for Q at the Carolina Smokehouse.
Pretty sure that's where I'm going to ride for lunch on Saturday if I make it through the rain tomorrow.
The Smokehouse is OK. The Smokey Mtn. Crabshack around the corner on S. 107 (1 blk. on left) is far better though. Try the shrimp burger. It wasn't there when Alton rode through.
Leaving in a couple hours.
Its raining steady but not silly hard and schools are closed due to flood warnings. Should be fun. With luck we'll clear the worst of it by the time we get a couple hundred miles W of here. (Wilmington NC area)
Raining heavily with flooding and tornado watches here in the DC area. :(
I am ready and watching the weather/radar on the TV and internet. Maybe a break in the heavy stuff for an hour around 8:00 AM and I hope to head directly west over to I-81 and ride down in moderate rain.
Still planning on being at the hotel by dinner tonight. :)
My BRR trip on hold. I had a cold a few days ago and, as always, passed it on to Maria. She's got it bad with some fever, so I'm not leaving right now. We'll see...
Sorry to hear you and Maria are not feeling great. I have sent you a PM.
I'm fine. We'll see how Maria does, she is still sleeping - that's good. I've not given up yet...
Paul, hope Maria gets the best of this thing real soon.
All, have a great time and ride safe!! :thumbsup:
Marty's bike is here too, but no sign of Marty. Probably napping.
Correction, Not Marty's bike, it was Kraynik's. Honest mistake, except for the color, the bags and the thought of Marty getting here early
You will be missed, Paul. Getting out of Maryland would have been a challenge with the weather you are getting. Most of the usual suspects are here.
I felt a little like Joe Btfsplk this morning -- blue skies visible north, south, east, and west of Dahlonega, but rain since 9:00 last night. We finally said, "screw it," and hit the road at 11:15, and the rain stopped within 20 miles.
I have been feeling guilty about this since I read about Marla.
Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc.
I got on this board back in May, and noticed Paul's presence, and his geographic proximity to mine. I started PM'ing him and guess what happened, he hit the diesel fuel and went down.
We discussed the former via PM, and what happened, he rides out west, there's a sudden gust of gravity and his bike falls on his foot, and he misses his first UN.
Then I sign up to go to my first BMWST event, Fall BRR 2010, and his wife gets sick leaving him out of the equation.
Logically, it's not my fault, but there seem to be striking coindinces...
Well, Paul's wife Maria and my wife Michelle must have been hanging out together 'cuz Michelle has been heaving most of the day. I stayed home to tend to her and haven't made it to Maggie Valley yet. I'm hoping she'll feel well enough for me to meet up and ride with some folks tomorrow.
