This "soft until shock" attribute is very similar to what BMW themselves market with their NP armor. See http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=44695 When I tested the Airshell jacket - http://www.mklsportster.com/Articles/mcn-bmwairshell.pdf - which I loved enough to buy one myself, by the way, the NP exhibited a very pliable feel until shocked. I could push my fingertip into it slowly, but if whacked with a rubber mallet or if I punched it hard, it barely left an imprint.
