Autocom Matt
I had someone ask why the Autocom microphone won't work with wired to a 2.5mm plug plugged straight into a Zumo 550 or 660/665. Here is the answer, maybe it will save someone $13 and frustration... Autocom uses an electret microphone not a dynamic microphone. Electret microphones need power for the preamp within the capsule to operate. The Garmin does not inject this power. That said, you can add this power either through a battery cell (or two) or a power supply circuit. This electret microphone is chosen due to high directionality and rejection of background noise. If a solution existed for under $75 allowing for a high quality electret microphone and in-ear speakers directly connected to the Zumo would you purchase? I'm asking because I may make up a cable or two but if I'm doing 10 or more, I should be able to offer a much better price and smaller package. Link to comment
