John Nielsen
I hung a wet lawn bagger bag too close to my bike and it dripped some of the fluid onto the right front tank faring. Today, I saw the moisture left milky streaks in the finish!! I have tried mineral spirits and Soft Scrub with bleach with no effect. Is the finish on this '97 R1100RT a base-clear system? If so, is there any chance a body shop can buff the clear and remove the streaks or will it need to be sanded to the base coat and re-cleared?? Worst case would be if this is a single stage finish and I have to refinish and color match a 15 year old paint job. Help please with any ideas! Thank you. Link to comment
upfisk
It is a clear coat over the base coat. Link to comment
Kathy R
Welcome and bummer! We are fond of saying, "That'll buff right out". I sure hope so. Link to comment
John Nielsen
I might be OK. This morning, the milky streaks have nearly disappeared. Link to comment
LBump
Sorry to read your paint has goober stains... Color sand and buff should work. Consult with a local body/paint shop. If the crap went through the clear you'll have a bigger problem and a bigger bill. Link to comment
Nice n Easy Rider
I might be OK. This morning, the milky streaks have nearly disappeared. When I had milky stains in the polyurethane finish on my wood floor from water that had been left pooling overnight I gently warmed the area with a hair dryer and watched the stains disappear. I suspect your stains might have "dried out" with the same effect. Link to comment
