Lost Pin out of Top Box Hinge

Any easy fixes other than totally replacing the hinge (as offered by BMW)?

 

If not, I will work out a cheap and hopefully easy fix.

 

Currently have bent wire through it.

Why not just buy a pin the right size from a metal supplier? What size is the original pin? This should be a simple purchase from McMaster-Carr, or similar place.

If you can't find a pin, check out finishing nails and when you find one, cut it to length and then just peen the end after you slide it into the hinge.

also there are various sizes of piano wire at local hobby shops.

The hardware aisle at Lowe's has a great selection of all sorts of small bits and pieces. I would check there first.

Got some 4.5mm galvanised nails that are a very good fit. Plan to drill and peen the end. Maybe turn down the head a bit.

Turned down the head of the nail a bit (for better looks), cut a bit overlength, drilled the end a bit and used a 'press stud' tool (made for a similar purpose in joining press stud halves to clothing etc) to expand the end a bit. Worked beautifully.
