Hexcode to charge for GS-911 updates??

Received an email this morning suggesting that Hexcode are considering charging for software updates to the GS-911 units.

 

Here's a link to the recently started forum asking for input from users regarding it. Not much there at present, but may be worth watching things develop.

While I'd rather pay nothing than something the idea of charging a nominal fee for major updates doesn't seem too out of line. No doubt there are an incredible amount of development hours required and I want to see their income stream continue to justify it. Sales of the GS911 hardware itself probably brings in some cash but it is a niche item and the total numbers may be just too small. Bottom line, we need these guys to stay in business. Their product is a Godsend and I don't think I'd be willing to own a late-model BMW motorcycle if it didn't exist.

It all sounds reasonable to me. I still retain full functionality of the current updates and beta releases. The tool pays for itself the first time you use it.
