Factory Tool Kits

Purchased a used 2005 R1200RT without the factory on-board tool kit, big surprise it wasn't there! Anyway, I would like to purchase a tool kit of some kind. Does anyone have any recommendations on a tool kit for the R1200RT that can be stored on-board under the seat????

Thanks

Afternoon Lisa

We just did a thread a couple of weeks ago on a 1200ST (uses the same tools as the RT) with no tool kit. (see link below)

No real loss on your part as your bike came with almost no useable tool kit.

So here's what's in my RT's tool kit.

  • Tool bag (cheap vinyl)
  • 8/10/13/15/17mm wrenches (most are combos 2 sizes per wrench - there are 4 wrenches)
  • Torx wrenches - 25/30/40/45/50
  • Philips & straight screwdriver (rod, no handle, slides into the spark plug wrench to act as the handle)
  • Spark plug wrench (also acts as a hex type insert wrench for the front axle bolt)
  • Tricky plastic spark plug cap removal tool

Probably $100 if you buy it from BMW but $25 from Home Depot/Lowes/Sears. Except the spark plug cap removal tool which is something like $4 and really handy (although you can use a couple of zip ties or string/cord to pull them safely - you don't want to yank them or use a screwdriver because that may lead to breaking the cap/coil).
