katram
newbie here so forgive me if i'm posting this inquiry in the wrong forum. i acquired a lovely 95 r1100rs this winter in nearly mint condition. after having regular maintenance done on it and a set of "fog" lights installed by the dealer, i'm left with 2 stress cracks in the fairing covering the forks and bad taste in my mouth. so can anyone here recommend a mechanic in NJ or Bucks County PA who does work on BMW motorcycles? Eckenhoff was recommended by another website but it appears they are no longer in business Edited September 4, 2016 by katram Link to comment
TEWKS
Welcome and sorry bout the shoddy work you received. Did you confront (ask) the dealership about it? Sometimes, not often, people will admit their mistakes and try to make it right. If you have a toolbox in the garage, I bet you could keep up the service requirements with a little help from JVB. http://www.jimvonbaden.com/Oilhead_R1100-1150_1994-2006.html Pat Link to comment
ltljohn
If you want a dealer I would look to Hermy's in Port Clinton, yes it is a bit of a ride but has a good reputation. There is also Montgomeryville Cycle Center in Hatfield I have never used them so I can't say anything about them good or bad. For an Independent you can try Tom Cutter at Rubber Chicken Racing Garage in Yardley, Tom is well known and respected. Like Tewks said, if you have tools you can do most anything with some help from JVB Productions and this board. Ride Well, John Edited September 4, 2016 by ltljohn Link to comment
katram
Thanks for the suggestion but I don't even have a garage at the moment so that option is out. I am going to take a swing by the dealer next week to show them the cracked fairings, however, based upon their reaction when I complained about the oil spilled on engine/exhaust during their maintenance, my expectations of getting a satisfactory outcome are low. I guess when you're the only dealer in the state, you get cocky... Link to comment
katram
John, Thanks for the suggestions. Right in my neck of the woods, too. I'm not stuck on using a dealer so I'll try Rubber Chicken Racing Link to comment
George S.
Many of us northern NJ BMW owners use John Stephens (Cyclecraft) in Newfoundland NJ, just a few feet off RT 23. He's great with either modern or older BMWs, and any classic bike brand for owners of older bikes. Edited September 4, 2016 by George S. Link to comment
katram
i'm near Trenton so Sussex County would complicate the logistics but i'll keep him in mind as well. Link to comment
George S.
There are two other BMW riding clubs in NJ. Jersey Shore BMW Riders and New Sweden BMW Club. While neither one of them may be particularly near to you, perhaps you can contact them for a referral to someone who may be close. Someone in one of those clubs may even be a mechanic. They both have web sites. Edited September 4, 2016 by George S. Link to comment
kltk165
Thanks for the heads up George S. I'm in Morris County and have been looking for a private tech for a while. Is he a BMW specialist or does he work on everything? Scratch that question. I just read his ABOUT page on his website. Again, thanks for the tip. Edited September 9, 2016 by kltk165 Link to comment
